American filmmaker Roman Polanski, who was convicted of having sex with a child in 1977, will not be extradited to the U.S. from Poland, according to a Polish court decision handed down Friday. The Krakow appellate prosecutor’s decision said it found no reason for an appeal of an earlier court decision not to extradite the 82-year-old director. “Speaking for Polanski, I can say that we feel a great relief that this case has ended,” said Jan Olszewski, a lawyer for Polanski. “And this means that it will be possible for Polanski to start making a planned film in Poland.”
