A Boston woman died on Friday morning after her car was struck by a manhole cover that had become airborne. The woman was driving on I-93 through the Thomas P. O’Neill Tunnel when a manhole cover broke through the car’s front windshield. The tunnel was built during Boston’s “Big Dig,” which has been subject to problems since completion. In 2006, a woman died when 12 tons of concrete fell from the ceiling of the I-90 tunnel and hit her car.
