Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz credited Donald Trump with the “New York values” comment that has dogged his campaign for months. During a CNN town-hall forum Wednesday night, Cruz said the phrase was taken from his GOP rival. “And the reason I made that point was Donald did an interview with Meet the Press back in 1999, where he was explaining why, in that interview, that he supported partial-birth abortions. And his explanation in that interview was ‘Hey I’m from New York, those are New York values, they’re not Iowa values.” The Texas senator added Trump’s claim that his comment referred to New York’s Sept. 11, 20o1, first responders was “utterly absurd.”
