Ling Jihua, a former presidential aide and Communist Party chief, has been sentenced to life in prison on corruption charges. Ling was convicted of abuse of power, illegally obtaining state secrets, and accepting bribes. Ling and two other senior party officials, Bo Xilai and Zhou Yongkang, have been recently sentenced after they were accused of trying to undermine President Xi Jinping, who took office in late 2012.
