According to multiple outlets, Donald Trump will select Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his vice-presidential nominee. Pence has been the Republican governor of Indiana since 2013; prior to that, he was a U.S. congressman from 2001 until he took on the gubernatorial role. He came under intense national scrutiny in 2015 after signing into law the “Religious Freedom Restoration Act,” which critics saw as openly permitting discrimination against LGBT individuals. Despite intense backlash from businesses and sports organizations, Pence eventually signed revisions to the law preventing discrimination. Roll Call, The Indianapolis Star, CBS News reporter Major Garrett, and ABC News reporter Jon Karl all reported the pick via campaign sources.
