The Trump Organization has sprawling financial connections throughout the world with foreign entities and even criminals, creating a “national-security nightmare,” according to a new report from Newsweek. It’s unclear if Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump or his family members will sever ties to his business empire if he wins the general election. According to an investigation by reporter Kurt Eichenwald, the Trump Organization—a private business with its investors protected from the public eye—likely sends as much as hundreds of millions of dollars into the bank accounts of The Donald and his children. The examination and interviews by Eichenwald describe the enterprise’s connections to foreign politicians, businesses, and criminals—and contractual obligations that would remain even in the event of a Trump presidency. He writes in Newsweek, “If Donald Trump wins this election and his company is not immediately shut down or forever severed from the Trump family, the foreign policy of the United States of America could well be for sale.”
