Swedish Court Upholds Assange Warrant

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange’s arrest warrant was upheld by a Swedish appeals court, continuing his six-year legal battle with prosecutors, who are preparing to question Assange at Ecuador’s London embassy in October. The 45-year-old allegedly raped a woman in 2010, and officials have been trying to question Assange ever since the accusation first surfaced. He has been in Ecuador’s London embassy since 2012, where he took refuge from authorities over fears that he might be extradited to the United States regarding a criminal investigation into WikiLeaks. The court said: “The Court of Appeal shares the assessment of the District Court that Julian Assange is still suspected on probable cause of rape.” He will likely be questioned by an Ecuadorian prosecutor on Oct. 17.
