Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore was suspended without pay Friday morning for the remainder of his term after being found guilty of ethics violations in his defiance of a Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriages. Moore had faced ethics charges for the second time in 13 years—the first for his refusal to allow the removal of a Ten Commandments monument in the court lobby—for his January 2016 administrative order informing the state’s 68 probate judges of their “ministerial duty” to not issue same-sex marriage licenses.
