According to the latest tracking poll from ABC News, Donald Trump’s 12-point advantage in voter enthusiasm from early September has now crumbled to a 3-point deficit to rival Hillary Clinton. Entering the final stretch of the 2016 election season, 52 percent of Clinton supporters polled describe themselves as “very enthusiastic” about their choice—her highest level to date, up sharply from the 36 percent in surveys taken just after Labor Day. By contrast, 49 percent of Trump’s supporters can say the same about their enthusiasm for the reality-TV-star-turned-candidate. Additionally, the ABC News poll found, Clinton has improved in terms of “negative support”: 56 percent of her supporters say they will vote for her mainly to support her candidacy rather than to oppose Trump; whereas, 54 percent of Trump’s voters are motivated by opposition to Clinton.
