An Oklahoma elected official appeared to call for Hillary Clinton’s execution in a Facebook post. “2 words … firing squad,” Republican State Rep. John Bennett wrote, captioning a blog post blaming the former secretary of State for the deaths of four Americans in the 2012 Benghazi consulate attack. Bennett, who represents the 2nd District in eastern Oklahoma, later told Tulsa World that his Facebook post was meant as sarcasm. However, he said, he does believe Clinton is guilty of treason—which is punishable by death. In addition to Donald Trump himself suggesting “Second Amendment people” could put an end to a Clinton presidency, several of his surrogates have made overt references to her potential assassination: “Anyone that commits treason should be shot,” Al Baldasaro, an adviser to Trump on veterans issues, told The Daily Beast. “I believe Hillary Clinton committed treason.” Republican Sen. Richard Burr was caught on tape joking to supporters in private that gun owners should put a “bullseye” on Clinton.
