The Cubs defeated the Indians, 8-7, in the 10th inning to win their first championship since 1908. Game 6, which was played the night before, averaged around 23 million viewers. Previous MLB game 7 contests in 2011 and 2014 averaged 25.4 million and 23.5 million viewers, respectively. Wednesday evening’s finale was also the highest-rated MLB game since the 2001 Game 7 between the New York Yankees and Arizona Diamondbacks, which garnered a 27.0 rating, according to Nielsen data.
