During his first press conference as president-elect on Wednesday, Donald Trump announced that he has selected Obama appointee David J. Shulkin, the current undersecretary for health of the Veterans Health Administration, to serve as his first secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. “He’s fantastic,” Trump said of his latest appointee. “He will do a truly great job.” He added: “One of the commitments I’ve made is that we’re going to straighten out the whole situation for our veterans. Our veterans have been treated horribly.”
