Former President George H.W. Bush was discharged from Houston Methodist Hospital on Monday after he was successfully treated for pneumonia and made a full recovery, according to a statement from his spokesman Jim McGrath. Bush’s wife Barbara was also briefly in the hospital after she was diagnosed with bronchitis. “He is thankful for the many prayers and kind messages he received during his stay, as well as the world-class care that both his doctors and nurses provided,” the statement reads. The Bushes were unable to attend President Donald Trump’s inauguration, as is customary for all former presidents. On Twitter, House Speaker Paul Ryan called Bush, 92, a “national treasure” and wrote: “I’m relieved to know he has been discharged from the hospital and is feeling better.”
