Is this Chicago politics-as-usual? Rep. Danny Davis (D-IL) Tuesday warned Bill Clinton that he should stay out of the mayor’s race—or the former president’s “long and fruitful relationship” with the African-American community could be “broken.” Frontrunner Rahm Emanuel—who was once a senior aide to Clinton—announced last week Clinton would attend a campaign event in January, but no specifics were given. Davis, a Democrat from Chicago’s West Side who has been a longtime friend of the Clintons, said he intended his news release to be a personal message to Clinton. “You wouldn’t want your friends to be campaigning against you … I want him to be neutral,” Davis said. Davis holds a slight lead over Emanuel in the city’s black community, which makes up 35 percent of the vote.
