Here comes the sun: On Wednesday, the Chilean government expects to begin extracting miners from the mine they’ve been trapped in since August 5. Engineers spent Sunday and Monday reinforcing the top of the rescue shaft with steel casing. Next, they’ll prepare a special rescue capsule, with its own oxygen supply, that will travel down the shaft to retrieve the miners. Before anyone is rescued, a doctor will be lowered into the mine to check the workers’ health. The operation is expected to take two days.
