Odell Williams, a member of the City Council in Chester, South Carolina, was killed Tuesday in a shooting, according to a fellow council member and other sources. Police and emergency crews responded to a shooting just outside the city limits of the small rural community in Chester County, and the county coroner was dispatched to the Chester hospital, officials said. Williams, a former police officer, was arrested in March after threatening the Chester police chief at a council meeting. Williams denied the allegation, and the case had not gone to court. Authorities did not say what led to the shooting or if a potential suspect had been identified.
