Long Beach City College has a Rabbit Population Management Task Force. Why? To manage the rabbit population, of course. Just south of Los Angeles, hundreds of bunnies lounge in the shade and hop around the college campus fighting turf wars, burrowing holes in the lawns, and eating up thousands of dollars worth of landscaping. The college began a program to capture the rabbits and put them up for adoption, send them to sanctuaries or neuter and re-release them on campus. The school blames Easter—which causes families to buy rabbits as novelty pets, but abandon them once they realize taking care of them is too much work.
