Q: How do I register to comment?

A: Either by clicking Sign in at the top of the comments stream, or simply writing a comment and then following the steps to register when you post the comment. Click here to sign up for a new account.

Q: What sign-in options do I have for posting comments?

A: You can create a Daily Beast account using a valid email address and nickname.

Q: Can I comment without creating an account?

A: No, we require readers to create a Daily Beast account in order to be able to comment.

Q: How do I share my comment on Twitter and Facebook?

A: Type your comment, then check the box next to the social network(s) you’d like to share your comment to, then click “Post Comment”. Note that you will have to first connect your Twitter and/or Facebook accounts to your profile before being able to use any social sharing feature.

Q: Can I edit my comment after posting it?

A: Yes, you can edit your comment for a minutes after you post it.

Q: Can I embed HTML in my comment?

A: No, HTML is not supported in comments.

Q: How do I add video or pictures to my post?

A: You are able to add images and videos from the following sources to your comments:

  • youtube
  • Flickr
  • Twitpic
  • imgur
  • tinypic
  • Vimeo

To add the image or video, just enter its URL into your comment. A thumbnail of the image or video will appear in the comment box, after you post your comment.

Q: How do I tag my friends from Facebook or Twitter in my comments?

A: Type or click the "@" symbol to mention your friends from Facebook and Twitter. This will bring up a list of your friends and followers from your connected Facebook and Twitter accounts. Clicking the name of the person tags them and when you click "Post Comment", a window pops up allowing you let your friends know that you mentioned them.

Q: How do I flag an abusive comment?

A: Hover the comment’s time stamp and click "Flag" and then click "Spam", "Offensive", "Disagree", or "Off-topic". When a comment is flagged, our moderators will be notified.

Q: How do I change the order in which comments are displayed?

A: The conversation’s latest comments are displayed by default, but simply click "Newest" or "Oldest" to toggle between the two.

Q: I forgot my password, how do I reset it?

A: Click here to reset your password.

Q: How do I change the information on my user account, such as email address, password, or nickname?

A: Click on "My Account" in the drop-down next to your nickname, sign in again and follow the steps provided. Should you have problems, contact us at [email protected]

Q: Can I delete or disable my commenting account?

A: Readers cannot delete their own account once created. Please send a request to [email protected].
