It’s rare for Democrats and Republicans to find common ground these days, but congressional leaders announced on Tuesday that they’d made a deal to continue funding the government through March 2013. Congress won’t get a chance to vote on the agreement until after the August recess because it hasn’t been fully drafted yet. If it passes, the measure would set the government’s funding level at $1.047 trillion, the same level set in the 2011 Budget Control Act. The reason for the speedy deal? Lawmakers wanted to avoid a budget fight leading up to the election.
