A member of the UC Irvine History Department, Editor of the Journal of Asian Studies, and a co-founder of “The China Beat” blog, his commentaries and reviews have appeared in many online and print periodicals, including the Times Literary Supplement (London), the Los Angeles Times, Foreign Policy, the Nation, and Time Magazine.
