Phyllis Hain recently retired after 21 years as a U.S. Navy Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) and a Family Advocacy Educator, during which she was a member of the DC-based National Joint Task Force studying the problem of sexual assault in the military. She served as Vice President of Northwest Florida's Victim Coalition and was selected NASP's "Civilian of the Year" for her contribution to the Sexual Assault Victim Intervention Program. Her upcoming book, Diamond in the Dark (Bancroft Press/November 15, 2013) chronicles her personal and professional experience with abuse of almost every kind—child sexual abuse, domestic violence, PTSD, rape, and murder.
