There was a 56 percent increase in the number of U.S. law-enforcement officers killed by firearms in 2014, according to an annual report from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. This year, 50 officers were killed by guns, compared to 32 in 2013. Fifteen deaths were due to ambush assaults, the highest figure since 1995. In total, 126 federal, local, and tribunal officers were killed in the line of duty, a 24 percent increase from 2013.
