Sen. Patty Murray (D) held her own against a strong challenge from Republican Dino Rossi in Washington state’s Senate race. At the latest count, Rossi received 48.7 percent of the vote, compared with Murray’s 51.3 percent. The win gives the Democrats 53 seats in the Senate, and will be very welcome news for a party searching for bright spots in an election year that annihilated their majority in the House and reduced it in the Senate. For days, the race was too close to call, delaying the announcement of a winner until Thursday afternoon, when the Associated Press called it for Murray.
