As Poland continues to mourn following the weekend's devastating plane crash, others are beginning to figure out why the plane went down, taking 96 lives and fracturing the country's political leadership. A Russian air-traffic controller said he had trouble understanding the Polish-speaking crew. "Numbers were hard for them so I could not determine their altitude," he said. Poland's former prime minister told The Guardian that President Lech Kaczynski may have pressured the pilot to land in unsafe conditions because he wanted to reach a memorial for Poland's war dead. "The president had wanted so much to be there. The pilot knew this and so they accepted the risk and in the process they lost everything," the official said.
