On Monday, the Department of Justice announced that it will begin collecting data on police stops, searches, and arrests to detect potential racial biases. The federal government will also award a grant of $4.75 million later this year to organizations that analyze arrest data and work to reduce biases, especially toward young minority men. "Racial disparities contribute to tension in our nation generally and within communities of color specifically, and tend to breed resentment toward law enforcement that is counterproductive to the goal of reducing crime," Attorney General Eric Holder said in a video address. The new measures are part of President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper initiatives to help improve the lives of young minority men.
