A Russian-built cargo plane crashed shortly after takeoff Wednesday at the airport in South Sudan’s capital Juba. An official and a witness told Reuters at least 41 people were killed. Presidential spokesman Ateny Wek Ateny said the plane had about 20 people on board, including 10 to 15 passengers, and a crew member and a child passenger reportedly survived the crash. It wasn’t immediately clear how many people were killed on the ground. The plane reportedly went down on the banks of the White Nile River near the airport.
