Pakistani militant Mullah Nazir has been killed by an American drone strike, Pakistani officials said on Thursday. The leader of one of four major militant factions in Pakistan, Nazir had been credited with sending fighters to back the Taliban over the border to Afghanistan to fight Americans. While considered a dangerous to Americans, he was seen by Pakistan as an important to keeping peace in the region—and his death could have serious consequences on the already fraught U.S.-Pakistani relations. Four others were reportedly killed in the attack in South Waziristan, including Nazir’s deputy, Ratta Khan.
