Six years after she was first diagnosed with breast cancer, Elizabeth Edwards has been advised to stop treating her disease after it spread to her liver. Edwards, an author, attorney, and estranged wife of former Senator John Edwards, posted a Facebook message on Monday to her supporters in which she thanked her “three saving graces—my family, my friends, and a faith in the power of resilience and hope.” Edwards was hospitalized last week, where doctors told her that “further treatment of her cancer would be unproductive,” according to a statement from her family. Her friends and family have traveled to North Carolina to be with her.
