The world's attention has focused on Haitian capital Port-au-Prince the last few days, which was near the epicenter of Tuesday's deadly 7.0 earthquake, but the surrounding area may be just as devastated. One emergency health worker told CNN that early reports from her colleagues indicated "all along the coast going west and then down south, towns are absolutely destroyed," and that in the case of the city of Leogane, West of Port-au-Prince, "the whole town had collapsed." Red Cross officials say roads are still difficult to navigate, leaving the surrounding areas outside of Port-au-Prince without crucial medical help. Meanwhile, Haitians living illegally in the U.S. were granted an 18-month amnesty that protects them from deportation.
