Give Toomas Hendrik Ilves some credit, at least he didn’t pretend his Twitter account was hacked (looking at you, Anthony Weiner). The Estonian president got testy on Twitter on Wednesday night over a column by New York Times writer Paul Krugman, calling him “smug, overbearing & patronizing” after Krugman, a Nobel-winning Princeton economist, wrote a blog post criticizing Estonia’s economic performance on the euro. “Guess a Nobel in trade means you can pontificate on fiscal matters and declare my country a ‘wasteland,’ ” Ilves tweeted. When contacted about the eight tweets sent criticizing Krugman, Ilves confirmed “yes, I send my own tweets.”
