First, the terrible storm hitting the Midwest this week caused travel nightmares for those making the pilgrimage to Sunday's Super Bowl in Dallas, and now this. Six people (initial reports cited seven) were injured—one is in critical condition—when accumulated ice fell 200 feet from the roof of Cowboys Stadium Friday afternoon, according to authorities. The freak accident occurred at around 1:15 p.m. at what will be the site of Sunday’s Super Bowl matchup between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers. “The ice and snow melting off of the Cowboys Stadium roof has caused several sliding snow falls onto the plazas,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in an email. Five of the six people injured were taken to local area hospitals.
