Áslaug Magnúsdóttir Exits Moda Operandi: Áslaug Magnúsdóttir has left her post as co-founder and CEO of luxury online etailer Moda Operandi. The businesswoman made her exit just after the company reached $36 million in a Series C round of additional funding. Magnúsdóttir declined to comment on the reason for her departure to BoF, but the New York Post reports that the split was due to a rift between Magnúsdóttir and Moda Operandi co-founder and creative director Lauren Santo Domingo. Ireland Baldwin’s Steamy Photo Shoot: Ireland Baldwin, daughter of Kim Basinger and Alec Baldwin, is cementing her new career as a fashion model with a steamy new photo shoot in the latest issue of Vanity Fair. The spread, shot by Patrick Demarchelier, features the blond-haired, blue-eyed beauty striking a series of titillating poses, wearing a white shirt and barely-there bottoms in one photo and a formfitting white dress in another. Rihanna Sues Topshop: Rihanna is reportedly suing British retailer Topshop to the tune of $5 million for selling T-shirts that feature her name without her permission. According to the New York Post, Rihanna’s management had asked that Topshop not sell her image “a number of times,” but the store refused. The singer has reportedly already spent over $1 million in litigation fees. [New York Post]

Galliano To Do TV Interview?: John Galliano may be supplementing his sit down interview with Vanity Fair with an appearance on the small screen. According to WWD, talks of the designer participating in a TV interview with Charlie Rose are underway. If it pans out, this would mark one of the rare occurrences that Galliano participates in a long interview. His publicist, Liz Rosenberg, denied the claims: “There are no plans in place regarding TV appearances for John at this time,” she told WWD. [WWD]

In the wake of Christopher Kane’s departure from Versus, Donatella Versace decided to retool the label’s dynamic—one that she’s been overseeing since her brother Gianni Versace gave her the renegade brand’s lead responsibilities in 1990. Those changes, which have been carefully plotted in the last six months since Kane left, were presented in New York on Wednesday evening, marking the debut of two components: the newly named Versus Versace collection (a mélange of seasonless, referential designs for progressive youths) and a three-part collection that Versace designed in collaboration with Kane’s upstart London acolyte, 28-year-old J.W. Anderson.

Julianne Moore’s Squashed Toes: Julianne Moore looked lovely in a black and lilac strapless Dior dress on Wednesday night at the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival, but her feet looked like they were in absolute pain. Cambodia Shoe Factory Collapse: On the heels of a factory tragedy in Bangladesh, another country has suffered a hazardous clothing manufacturing-related accident. A collapsed ceiling in a shoe factory in Cambodia on Thursday took the lives of three people and injured six. The collapse was reportedly a mezzanine floor that had been added between two buildings in order to enlarge the factory space. [Wall Street Journal]

H&M’s Plus Size Praise: H&M has hired a plus-sized model for a new swimwear campaign. Jennie Runk, a size 12 American model, poses in both one-piece suits and bikinis from the retailer's the plus-sized swimwear collection. H&M is remaining humble in response to the positive press surrounding its campaign. “Our aim is not to convey a certain message or show an ideal but to find a model who can illustrate this collection in an inspiring an clear way,” a publicist told Quartz. It’s not every day that you meet a lingerie model who has written a book about her devotion to the “Lord.”  But Kylie Bisutti’s I’m No Angel (released Tuesday) is the exception. It begins with proverb 31:30, which reads: “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” The line sums up Bisutti’s exit from the modeling world, and serves as a prelude to the 23-year-old’s stories of commitment to the Christian church, as well as her strong stance against the industry’s inherent immodesty.

You probably didn’t know it, but we can now confirm that actress Zoe Saldana weighs in at a feather-light 115 pounds. As Allure describes the Star Trek star in so few words on the cover of its June issue, “Zoe Saldana: 115 Pounds of Grit and Heartache.”

Karlie Kloss, Designer: Karlie Kloss is putting her long gams to good use. The model has designed a two-style denim capsule collection for Frame, launching this June. The jeans have been produced with extra-long legs and inseams to accommodate tall women like Kloss. “I’m freakishly tall, so finding pants that fit is something I’ve struggled with my whole life,” Kloss told Vogue. The jeans will retail for approximately $200. [Vogue] 

Offensive ‘Slave’ Fashion Spread: Another month, another provocative fashion shoot. This one is called ‘Be My Slave." An offensive spread staged by Pakistani designer Aamna Aqueel, the shoot features a model wearing her designs while a darker-skinned child attends to the model’s needs, like holding an umbrella over her head. The child ‘slave’ is dressed in disheveled, tribal clothing. When The International Herald Tribune’s Pakistani affiliate contacted Aqueel for comment, she said that the shoot was not intended to be racist but meant to “spark a debate on child labor.” She said that the child featured “works in a garage and wanted some work.” [The Express Tribune] 

Androgyny is once again in fashion, and just in time: the long arm of gender equality has extended its reach past the boardrooms and into our bathrooms (and medicine cabinets). American consumers spent over $5 billion on men’s grooming products last year, over half of which went into skin care and cosmetics, according to the market data firm Euromonitor International (in 1997, by way of comparison, they spent $2.4 billion). By becoming attuned to the beauty industry, men are now openly availing themselves of the same opportunities afforded to women.

And it makes sense: if the whole mating game and song and dance (and so, to a large degree, human existence) is about power and seduction, why wouldn’t men employ tools that would stealthily make them appear to be more attractive, healthier, and generally successful?  (Just be careful of your word choice: when it comes to the “rougher” sex, it appears that the use of the word “grooming”—which brings to mind the virility and polish of racehorses—is preferred industrywide over “makeup.”) One might wonder what’s taken them so long to join ranks; after all, blemishes don’t care whether you have a Y chromosome.
