Jamie Oliver, eat your heart out: Michelle Obama announced her Childhood Obesity Action Plan on Tuesday with the goal of ending the American childhood obesity crisis within a generation. Recommendations include building more sidewalks, decreasing youngsters' face time with digital media, a call for more infant breast-feeding, and nixing deep-fryers from school cafeterias. In lieu of explicitly advocating taxes on junk food and sodas—both ideas are being mulled over at the federal, state, and local levels—the plan recommends investigating "the effect of state and local sales taxes on less healthy, energy-dense foods." The report is a result of President Obama's Task Force on Childhood Obesity, created earlier this year.
