On Sunday, Sarah Shourd, who was detained in an Iranian prison for 13 months and was recently returned to the U.S. on "humanitarian grounds," spoke publicly about her two friends who remain imprisoned in Iran. Calling herself only “one-third free” at a press conference in New York City, she said her companions, one of whom is her fiancé, “do not deserve to be in prison one day longer than I was. We committed no crime and we are not spies. We in no way intended any harm to the Iranian government or its people, and believe a huge misunderstanding led to our detention and prolonged imprisonment." Last week, Omani officials facilitated a $500,000 bail payment and Shroud's subsequent release. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has stated that he will not intervene in the situation and will let the matter be resolved via Iran's court system.
