The Best and Worst Dressed

Tilda Swinton looked awesome in gold, the Princess of Monaco was radiant in white, and Azealia Banks dressed up like a cat. See the fashion highs and lows of the week.

Best Dressed, Eccentric of the Week: Tilda Swinton

Tilda, she can do no wrong. To the premiere of Only Lovers Left Alive at the Cannes Film Festival, Swinton ingeniously infused chic with a little crazy in a flowing custom Haider Ackermann pants, top, and shocking blonde mop.

Best Dressed, for Being Fierce: Azealia Banks

A cat euphemism in a sexy outfit, we get it. But we give rapper Azealia Banks serious props for choosing this cat costume—and looking pretty badass—during her performance at the Life Ball.

Best Dressed, for a Night at the Movies: Brit Marling

Brit Marling showed her serious side at the premiere of The East in a Balenciaga Fall 2013 blouse and black tapered pants with a short-sleeved tailcoat. The only thing? The event was held at Los Angeles’s Arclight Theatre, which is basically the most casual movie theater in the world, so this outfit was probably pretty out of place.

Best Dressed, Putting a Bow on It: Hilary Swank

Relative to the troves of freaks and geeks at Vienna’s Life Ball, Hilary Swank was pretty buttoned-up. She looked prim in a Giambattista Valli cocktail dress with zebra-stripe overlay and a bow for a belt.

Best Dressed, White Night: Princess Charlene of Monaco

The statuesque Charlene of Monaco looked stunning in a white strapless dress at the Formula One Gala dinner in Monaco.

Best Dressed Man of the Week: Stefano Tonchi

There are few men in the fashion business as stylish as W magazine editor Stefano Tonchi, who turned out in a double-breasted jacket and his summer slacks to a lunch in celebration of When Attitudes Become Form: Bern 1969, the new show at Fondazione Prada in Venice on May 29.

Worst Dressed, Drop Crotch Perpetrator: Adam Lambert

The annual Life Ball in Vienna is famous for inviting over-the-top and wild style. Which is why Adam Lambert’s all-black outfit came as something of a shock—and seemed neither attractive or event appropriate.

Worst Dressed, Caged Bird: Laetitia Casta

The Cannes Film Festival was exploding with incredible dresses, but unfortunately this wasn’t one of them. Laetitia Casta attended the closing ceremony.

Worst Dressed, the Bearded Lady

The star—and terror—of the Life Ball was the eccentric Austrian singer Conchita Wurst, who arrived in a gold one-piece with gold wings.
