The recession carries on, but the brave members of the French fashion industry soldiered ahead this week with the annual haute couture presentations, trotting out so many crazy headdresses and pounds of tulle that it was almost possible to imagine we are living in boom times. American celebrities and fashion Francophiles flocked to the event (seen here, Megan Fox and Cate Blanchett celebrating Giorgio Armani’s collection and birthday—the designer turns 75 this weekend), and there were some truly touching moments, including the now-bankrupt Christian Lacroix’s possible final presentation, a lavish show that prompted tears and a standing ovation from the adoring throngs.
