A safe was ripped off the wall and nearly $2 million worth of jewelry loaned from a Beverly Hills boutique—and photos and videos of a very personal nature—were reportedly stolen in the incident last weekend. Three burglars—two female and one male—were caught on her mansion’s surveillance tape. LiLo Twittered after the break-in: "that's how i know it was not a ROBBERY. electronics weren't taken... just things that a certain old friend knew meant a lot to me.”Vince Bucci / Getty ImagesOrlando BloomHe may have played a Pirate of the Caribbean, but Orlando Bloom had a little thief trouble of his own recently when his possessions went missing. In mid-July, at least $500,000 in jewelry, cash, and artwork were stolen from the actor, including 14 vintage watches. One of his most prized possessions—a 1950s Rolex Milgauss worn by Sean Connery in Goldfinger— was stolen from his home in the Hollywood Hills.Charley Gallay / Getty Images for ChanelRachel BilsonMaybe she should have stayed in The O.C.? On May 8, the actress’ Los Angeles home was robbed and her closet was hit especially hard. Bilson’s Chanel collection, designer clothing, a huge vintage shoe collection, bags, and heirloom jewelry from her grandmother were discovered missing when the actress returned home from spending time with boyfriend Hayden Christensen in New York.Damian Dovarganes / AP PhotoOzzy OsbourneHow gutsy is it to raid the home of the Prince of Darkness? In 2004, eight pieces of jewelry were nearly stolen from Ozzy Osbourne’s home when the singer was sound asleep. The robber never anticipated the singer waking up, catching him in the act, and biting off his head like a dove. The robber escaped out the first-floor window and fled the property in England. Ozzy said at the time, "I'm happy in one respect because it could have got really ugly and I'm just happy no one got injured.”Francois Durand / Getty ImagesParis HiltonDuring the holidays last year, Paris Hilton’s mansion was raided by a thief wearing a black hoodie, who escaped with nearly $2 million in jewelry, including diamonds, rings, necklaces, watches, and family heirlooms. The socialite said at the time, “I am devastated. I cannot believe someone broke into my home. They took items that had such sentimental value that no one will ever be able to replace.”Jason Merritt / Getty ImagesAudrina PatridgeWhen the reality-TV star returned home from partying the night away at this year’s Academy Awards, she found robbers had entered through an unlocked door and made off with money and jewelry. The Hills star blogged immediately after the February 22 incident, writing, “I had a really rough day today—I got home late last night and realized that my house had been robbed. It was pretty devastating!” A few days later, the 24-year-old posted the surveillance footage of the thieves online and asked the public to help identify the man and woman rifling through her belongings. Six months later, the suspects are still at large—and may be involved in the latest break-in at Lindsay Lohan’s home.John Bryson, Time & Life Pictures / Getty ImagesElizabeth TaylorDuring a trip to Paris in 1965, Liz Taylor’s hotel apartment was broken into and gems valued at $50,000 were stolen. Some of the jewelry, which was insured, belonged to the violet-eyed beauty’s grandmother. “Whoever stole the jewelry knew a lot about it,” Taylor said. “They only picked the best pieces.”David Zalubowski / AP PhotoEddy CurryNew York Knicks center Eddy Curry and his family had a terrifying experience two years ago when they were robbed at gunpoint in their Chicago home. At least $10,000 in cash and jewelry was taken after the robbers bound the family with duct tape. One of the assailants, Antoine Larkins, is a serial offender—he pleaded guilty to robbing Curry and, in an unrelated incident, robbing Chicago Bulls star Antoine Walker, and was sentenced to 21 years in prison for both crimes.Steve Pyke / Getty Images; AP PhotoAlbert EinsteinIn 1955, one of the most brilliant brains in the world (seen at left) was stolen. After Albert Einstein’s death, the doctor charged with performing the autopsy took the physicist’s brain under the guise of running a report on it. Thomas Harvey kept the brain for the next 42 years, until journalist Michael Paterniti traveled across the country with Harvey in 1997 to return it to Evelyn Einstein, Albert’s granddaughter. Paterniti published a piece in Harper’s and the resulting book Driving Mr. Albert: A Trip Across America With Einstein’s Brain chronicled their unlikely journey.Phil Cole / Getty ImagesFrank LampardChelsea midfielder Frank Lampard was stirred from his sleep a few years ago when he heard his cars being stolen from his west London home. His television, stereo, and two laptops were also taken, but the theft of his Aston Martin and Mercedes jeep were the real heartbreakers. Luckily, police found a suspect and the two cars after the soccer star activated their GPS systems.Ethan Miller / Getty ImagesKelly Monaco Earlier this year, Kelly Monaco’s Las Vegas penthouse was broken into while she was sleeping. The General Hospital star and first Dancing With the Stars champion hid under her bed while her digs at Planet Hollywood were burgled. She was in Vegas while co-headlining the modern-day burlesque Peepshow. Thankfully for other Sin City travelers, the burglar was caught and charged with invasion of the home and grand larceny.Hans Punz / AP PhotoMonica BellucciApparently it’s common for robbers to pinpoint the homes of high-profile targets when they’re expected out. Italian beauty Monica Bellucci was at the Cannes Film Festival this year when her Paris apartment was robbed. More than $110,000 worth of jewelry, two laptops, and her passport were stolen.AP Photo; Central Press / Getty ImagesCharlie ChaplinThis sounds like the plot of a movie, but Charlie Chaplin’s body was actually stolen from a Switzerland cemetery near the hills of Lake Geneva. In March 1978, Chaplin’s grave and coffin were robbed by two Swiss motor mechanics who tried to hold the body for ransom. Chaplin’s widow refused to give in to their demands, saying, “Charlie would have thought it ridiculous.” The coffin was found 11 weeks later and was buried under two meters of concrete.Katy Winn / AP PhotoNaomi CampbellNaomi Campbell always seems to be in the middle of trouble. While she was attending a Led Zeppelin concert in London in 2007, the British model with a reputation for her violent temper was reportedly mugged and her BlackBerry stolen. Turns out the cellphone was just snagged from her purse during the show—but since it contained the personal numbers of Beyoncé, Jay-Z, and Kate Moss, four security teams in the arena were called in for the search.
