Shelly Lubben

Lubben made 30 porn movies under the name Roxy in the early 1990s before she found God and left the industry. After eight years of recovery from depression and drug abuse, she became an ordained chaplain and now runs the Pink Cross Foundation, helping porn stars seeking salvation. "I love to show the world that yes, God took a porn star and prostitute and made a champion out of her," says Lubben. "If God can heal a porn star, he can heal anyone."

Annie Sprinkle

Sprinkle starred in more than 150 "loops" and 50 porn films, including Deep Inside Annie Sprinkle, the No. 2-selling video of 1981, before leaving the industry in the mid-'80s when her concerns about safe sex fell on deaf ears. Born Ellen Steinberg, she became the first porn star to earn a Ph.D., receiving a doctorate from the Institute of Advanced Study of Human Sexuality. In 2007, she married Elizabeth Stephens. The couple took the earth "as their lover" as part of their commitment to the "ecosexual movement."

Sharon Mitchell

A former Broadway dancer, Mitchell has a 30-year porn résumé that includes such titles as Cat on a Hot Sin Roof and Hannah Does Her Sisters. In 1998, Mitchell set up the Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation, which tests erotic actors for HIV and other STDs on a scheduled basis. "Being in the sex business for my first career gave me a lot of sex experience but little intimacy," she said in 2006. "Now I realize I can have many types of intimacy, not just sexual intimacy, once I learned to let people in."

Harry Reems

The mustachioed star of 1972's Deep Throat says he is the "only artist ever, good or bad, of any kind, to be prosecuted by the federal government." He got sober and left the business in 1989 after turning into a " fall-down, blackout drinker." Happily married and a Christian convert, he now runs a successful real-estate brokerage in Utah. "Of course people can find me," Reems told New York magazine in 2005. "But what are they gonna find me for?"

Asia Carrera

Hailed as the porn star with the high IQ thanks to her Mensa membership, Carrera has extensive credits including Where the Boys Aren't 7 and Cheeks and Thong's Up in Stroke. In 2003, she married a nutritionist and moved to Utah. But she was eight months pregnant when tragedy struck—her husband died in a car crash. Donations from fans tided her over until an insurance company paid out on a policy she had forgotten about.

John Bobbitt

The former Marine turned to porn to capitalize on his fame after his beautician wife, Lorena, hacked off his penis in 2003. The reattached member was featured in films like John Wayne Bobbitt Uncut and Frankenpenis. Since then, however, Bobbitt has struggled to make ends meet while living in Las Vegas. He has been arrested for a string of offenses, including domestic violence and grand larceny.

Barbie Bridges/Pastor Melissa Scott

After a career as a porn star under the name Barbie Bridges, Melissa Scott married a 70-year-old pastor, Doc Scott, and left the industry. When he died two years later, she took over his ministry in downtown Los Angeles. "I'm the fruit of his lifelong ministry. He birthed me," she told Marie Claire last year in her first interview since her previous career was discovered. She refused to talk about her past life, however. "I want people to be able to start over, start a brand-new life," is all she would say. "How do you do that if you're condemning them? God is a god of second chances."

Sandra Scream

When Paul "Pee-wee Herman" Reubens was arrested at the movies in 1991 for exposing himself, the film in question was Nurse Nancy, starring Sandra Scream. Born Zorena K. Dombrowski, Scream was known as the Virgin Mary of Porn, thanks to her insistence on only one male partner. She retired in 2003 and settled in Irvine, California, where she now works as a professional energy healer and spiritual counselor. "Porno was very empowering to me," she told the Orange County Register in July. "It got me over a lot of fear and helped build confidence—you either learn to swim well in that business, or you sink."
