Tabloid Darling

Gabor had a long affair with Porfirio Rubirosa, whom his biographer dubbed “The Last Playboy.” Rubi, as he was nicknamed, was also associated with Eartha Kitt, Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner, and Empress Soraya of Iran. Though their every move was captured in the headlines—such as this photo, taken in New York in 1954—Gabor said she could never marry Rubi. “He wants me to give up my career and live with him in Paris. I could never give up acting. It is my life.”

Ninth Husband

In 1986, Gabor married Prince Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt of Munich who, as the adopted son of a German princess, falsely claimed to be a prince. Von Anhalt later admitted, “We didn’t marry for love… It was a friendship, but when you’re with someone over a certain time you fall in love.” He later said he had had an affair with Anna Nicole Smith, and claimed paternity of her daughter, Danielynn. In January 2010, Von Anhalt announced that he was running for governor of California. He withdrew in early August because of the decline in Zsa Zsa’s health.

Slapped with the Law

Driving her Rolls-Royce through Beverly Hills in 1989, Gabor was pulled over by a policeman for expired registration tags. "Usually they say, 'Zsa Zsa, what's the matter, are you married these days, do you want to marry me?' Gabor said. But this cop showed no such humor: He asked her to get out of the car. When she did, she slapped him across the face. The stunt landed Gabor in jail for 72 hours, and was fodder for an unauthorized documentary, The People vs. Zsa Zsa Gabor.
