The Giacometti Variations (detail), 2010
Images in this gallery are selected from a new exhibition, “The Giacometti Variations,” of John Baldessari’s work at the
Prada Foundation in Milan. The show consists of nine sculptures inspired by Giacometti—each standing 4.5 metres tall. But unlike Giacometti’s figures, Baldessari’s sculptures are each adorned with a piece of clothing designed by the artist himself. On one, that’s a hot-pink bow; on another, there are ruby slippers. The statues in the exhibition, which are arranged to vaguely resemble a runway show, successfully unite the worlds of art and fashion.
