Divorced After Decades
Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, 25 years
When Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver met at a charity tennis match in 1977, it was love at first sight. But since he was a moderate Republican from Austria and she was part of America’s most famous Democratic dynasty, they said it wouldn’t last. And after 34 years, they were finally right. The former California governor and Shriver announced Monday that after 25 years of marriage and four children, they had agreed to
separate amicably “This has been a time of great personal and professional transition for each of us,” the couple said in a joint statement. “After a great deal of thought, reflection, discussion, and prayer, we came to this decision together. At this time, we are living apart, while we work on the future of our relationship.” Romantics on both sides of the political aisle hope the couple have not terminated their mixed marriage.
