It’s been a big week for bad food. McDonald’s released its McBaguette, a burger on French bread, and Pizza Hut unveiled Crown Crust Pizzas, pies with an outer crust composed of mini-hamburgers. As well, another patron left Las Vegas’s Heart Attack Grill on a stretcher, a reminder of its official designation as creator of the Guinness World Records’ most caloric sandwich for its 10,000-calorie Quadruple Bypass Burger.
Of course, The Daily Beast has previously examined the unhealthiest of the unhealthy options at fast-food joints, including burgers, pizza, and desserts, but we’ve never turned our calorie calculator on sandwiches. To honor that simplest of fast-food offering—the sandwich—we crunched the numbers on national favorites.
The rules of the ranking are the same as usual. Only chain restaurants were considered, and a maximum of three offerings from each restauarant were eligible. Sandwiches were analyzed based on calories, saturated fat, sodium, and carbohydrates, and each nutritional category was weighted equally.
