Brace yourselves, “Remember the ’90s?” posts are coming. The Internet's longing for ’90s nostalgia came to fruition this week with the “1990s First World Problems” image macro meme. It all began on July 3, when Redditor SimonOwens submitted a photograph of actor James Van Der Beek from the popular ’90s TV show Dawson’s Creek (shown left) with a familiar reference to the once-popular-but-now-irrelevant TV Guide magazine. Soon, others chimed in with hundreds of blast-from-the-past punchlines involving 56K dial-up Internet, VHS tapes, and Tamagotchi digital pets among other things. Although we’ve seen quite a few jokes that spun off from last year’s mega-hit First World Problems, this one seems to have meshed particularly well with Reddit's backbone audience of 24-to-34-year-old guys who can’t seem to go a day without reminiscing about Super Mario Bros or Nokia cellphones anyway. Not sure if you're in the target demographic? You can take a test for that.
