To celebrate renowned Dutch photography duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, the Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills has curated a major exhibition of their photographs, opening this Friday. From campaigns for Miu Miu and Nina Ricci to editorials in Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue Paris, Inez and  Vinoodh have been leaders in the photography world for over two decades. The exhibit highlights their artistic ability to create aesthetic dichotomies—think “the beautiful with the bizarre… the elegant with the extreme”—to produce images that are postmodern masterpieces. Since their entrance into the photogaphy world 25 years ago, Inez and Vinoodh have photographed many famous faces, including Clint Eastwood, Bill Murray, and Tilda Swinton, as well as the anonymous “in an unfamiliar pose or guise, with further manipulations in post-production.” According to the duo, “Basically every picture we take is a self-portrait—a picture of how we feel at that moment in our lives”—even if that image may include the faces of others. See highlights of their work over the past 25 years.

Tulips, Carnations, Fiddlehead Ferns

Staying in tune with their floral motif, Inez and Vinoodh's image of 2 Pink Tulips, 4 Pink Carnations, and 4 Fiddlehead Ferns "imbues mere flowers with the force of human subjects."
