President Obama is turning to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner in his time of need: He has assigned Geithner and OMB Chief Jacob Lew to broker a compromise to extend the Bush tax cuts. Obama wants to extend the Bush tax cuts only for families earning less than $250,000 a year, while the GOP wants to extend them for rich families as well. Obama made the announcement after meeting with GOP leaders, which both sides hailed as productive. They planned several more meetings, including a possible summit at Camp David.
