The commander of U.S. Special Operations forces in Central and South America was pulled from his position in August after several incidents in which he became intoxicated in public, The Washington Post reported Wednesday. Army Brig. Gen. Sean P. Mulholland, 55, was removed for failing “to exercise restraint in the consumption of alcohol” during a deployment to Lima, Peru, in 2013, according to documents obtained by the Post under a Freedom of Information Act request. The two-star Air Force general was also cited for two altercations with civilians after drinking at a golf club bar near his Florida headquarters, military records show. A military statement at the time said he was “retiring for health and personal reasons,” but did not mention the internal investigation for misconduct. Mulholland is the fourth U.S. general to lose his job or be cited for alcohol-related misbehavior in two years.
