A nurse who was already convicted of killing patients in Germany is now believed to have killed as many as 86 people by giving them overdoses of heart medication. Niels Hoegel, 40, was sentenced to life in prison in 2015 after being found guilty of two murders and two attempted murders. Prosecutors say, however, that they think he killed many more people. The deaths of hundreds of patients are being examined, and bodies of former patients are being exhumed. The number of Hoegel’s victims may be higher, but some past patients were cremated, making evidence impossible to gather.
