Gloria Stuart, the actress who played “Old Rose” in Titanic, died on Sunday at the age of 100. Stuart began her career as an actress in horror films and musicals in the 1930s; she had been long dormant when a casting director from Titanic asked her to audition for the part in the 1997 film—which earned her an Oscar nomination. She was 87 at the time, and joked that she was picked because she was “still viable, not alcoholic, rheumatic, or falling down.”
