The annual PGA golf tournament at the Trump National Doral golf resort in South Florida will relocate to Mexico City, the tournament announced Wednesday. According to the WGC-Cadillac Championship’s outgoing chairman, the PGA Tour decided to exit the Trump golf course after 54 years of play there because it couldn’t find a sponsor to replace Cadillac, which opted not to renew its contract last year. The tournament denied that the sponsorship change was prompted by Trump’s many controversial political comments, especially those about Mexican immigrants. “Cadillac was going to leave,” Chairman Butch Buchholz said. “It had nothing to do with Trump. They said changing whole marketing strategy. The Tour had almost a year to find a replacement.”
