Police charged a Chicago grandmother on Tuesday in the murder of her 7-month-old granddaughter, who was found dead with her throat cut by a power saw. Authorities believe 52-year-old Manuela Rodriguez tried to suffocate Rose Herrara in order to get her to stop crying before using a power saw to cut the baby's throat. The infant died of blunt force trauma to the head and from suffocation with the use of a sock placed in her mouth, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. Rodriguez was taken into custody after she was treated for self-inflicted gunshot wounds on Monday and charged with first-degree murder, the state's attorney office said.
